Snippets of Sicily

My ladies in the meditterian sun

These are some moments of my last adventure in Sicily. A beautiful seafoam gate in Erice, a medieval town in the clouds. Night and day shots of Ceflu from an ancient pier. My new hat bargained off the head old man at a Palermo flea market. Palm frawn umbrellas at Donnalucita beach. A red leather bag purchased from a leather designer in Modica. My first fossil find, and a bunch of wildflowers picked by Thomas on our hike out of Cava Grande.

I had the most amazing time traveling the coast of Sicily this past month. We visited churches and catacombs, hiked volcanos, read and soaked up sun on the beach. Toured vineyards and hectic street markets, picnicked at ancient castles, and picked wildflowers along a gorgeous canyon hike. Enjoying truly blissful days walking, talking,  but more notably enjoying healthy Sicilian fair and sipping (cheap) local wines.

Bellisimo Capri

 View from Anacapri
Lazing in the sun wearing Capri made sunglasses that seem to be glued to my face these days.
 Lemons everywhere!
Some of the most spectacular ocean I have ever seen

At the end of our stay in Italy we decided to hop a ferry to Capri where I fell hard for the little island. On Capri it seems colors are brighter and more vibrant, smells stronger and fresher with lemons growing everywhere you look. Wandering through the narrow streets and whitewashed buildings of the island you find artists galore. Many making traditional greek sandals, iron workers forging villa gates,  some spinning and painting pottery, exceptional glass art, and even an artisan sunglass shop.  Half the island doesn't allow cars, and hiking/walking trails zigzag across the entire thing. Maybe i'm bias but I find islands to be the most peaceful relaxing places in the world.

We spent four days on this blissful little island, hiking, eating, shopping, mopeding around (haha yes I drove a ped), and soaking up the mediterranean sun. Something of a dream

Handmade in Capri

The Man behind the famous Capri sandals, he has been at it for sixty plus years.

 My Pick

We arrived in Capri two days ago and i am smitten with this place to the point of dubbing it my "retirement spot". Today i found the man i have been searching for since setting foot on the island. He has been making sandals on the island since 1951 for the likes of Jackie O and Julia Roberts (he showed me the ones they bought).

Some O' Berlin

I met this guy at his full to the brim shop that sold trinkets, furniture, tobaccos, and other things from Africa and the middle east. This place was right up my alley I could have spent hours wondering (or tripping) down the cluttered aisles gawking at his gorgeous things. Sadly i left empty handed unable to stuff anything he sold into my luggage.

We spent three lovely days wondering aimlessly around Berlin taking in all the history. Those were some of the things that caught my eye. Now i'm just waiting for the weather to improve so I can plan my next trip to Berlin.

Rockstar Pants

Back in high school my best friend lusted over these bright yellow Ralph Lauren pants from the store she worked at. She saved and saved and at the end of the summer she finally bought them. I never understood what the big deal was, pants were always a staple that you bought because they fit just right and were needed for everyday life, nothing like a dress that was completely unnecessary but fun and fit the moment. Anyways while in Berlin i fell in love with these rockstar pants and now I totally understand what the fuss was all about.

Sunlit sleeves

(Photos By Thomas, and Me)
Found this silk and cotton beauty in the Mitte district in Berlin, i love how the sleeves are totally transparent, but this detail is only visible when your lit by the sun. The top on the dress is elastic so you can pull it off your shoulders to make it go from a formal dress to a beach coverup in seconds. If anyone is interested in buying this piece email me at randikenworthy@gmail.com.
